This past weekend’s blizzard felt like the beginning of winter here at Camp, but I’m already dreaming of spring! Now is the time that farmers and gardeners look back over their previous year’s cultivation and harvest records, identify the favorites and the flops, and pore over seed catalogues to decide what to include in this year’s garden.
The new lower field, which will be brought into full operation for this year’s growing season, will triple the size of the original Burgess Farm. That means that we have a LOT of space to grow our favorite veggies and try some new ones! This picture of my desk shows just how chaotic it can be to choose varieties, calculate how many seed packets you need, and identify where to buy from (if you haven’t saved them yourself!). The good news is that I’ve still got a few more months of winter before any of these seeds will get started in the greenhouse – but it sure is fun to start dreaming of warmer weather!
